Appalachian Adventure

“The mountains are calling and I must go.” -John Muir

This is a belated photo blog of my Spring Break trip to Smoky Mountains National Park with Michael. We backpacked the Big Creek Trail to Mount Sterling Ridge Trail, then down Baxter Creek Trail in three days. The weather was beautiful except for a wild storm that hit us on our last night. Despite the best efforts of a raging wind and driving rain, our tent held up. The storm delayed our start on Wednesday, as we huddled in the middle of the tent listening to nature’s fury until Michael decided around 10:30 that we had to break camp regardless of the weather. Fortunately, the rain had subsided to a misty fog that enveloped the mountain and gave the woods a mystically eerie feel. By the afternoon, the weather cleared and we had a lovely hike down. We also had fun with the road trip portion, which was about 10 hours from St. Charles, MO to North Carolina near the Tennessee border.

Ah the sweet serenity of nature! Who needs a couch when you can recline in the middle of a creek?

Awesome, I’ve been putting off blogging about this since I’ve been so busy, and now I don’t have too! Haha, now I have more time to be sick and try to study for heat transfer.

I need your pictures though. I guess you need mine, too. I tried to take some of yours from facebook, but I guess they weren’t the right size, so I wasn’t able to post them on here. All of the good pictures of us together are on your camera. Bring your pics home this weekend and we’ll exchange.

PS- Have I ever mentioned that you look deranged in that picture? Of all the pictures you could choose to represent yourself on the internet, why that one?
